A Season of Celebration
This October’s First Friday and Saturday at Front Street is more than just another weekend—it’s a vibrant celebration of milestones, creativity, and community. On Friday, October 3rd, I’ll be commemorating two incredible occasions: the second anniversary of my studio and my 61st birthday. Adding to the festivities, on Saturday, the Halloween Market will lend a festive spirit, and most exciting of all, I’ll be unveiling my latest creation: The Hope Collection hats by Marlene Steele.

The Hope Collection: Wearable Art with a Purpose
The Hope Collection isn’t just about hats—it’s about stories and inspiration. Each felt hat is a piece of wearable art, lovingly crafted with the same attention, vision, and emotion that I pour into my canvas and furniture pieces. My goal is to offer more than fashion; each hat is designed to carry a message of hope and resilience.
Every hat arrives in an elegant hat box, making it the perfect gift or heirloom—ideal for anyone seeking something meaningful and unforgettable this holiday season.
I have always loved blending art and daily life; therefore, when I heard about a hat painting class being given by Dionne Woods (The Turquoise Iris), I knew I had to sign up. I was hooked immediately.

I have experienced so much joy throughout the creative process—from searching for the perfect shade of deep blue that reminds me of the ocean, to selecting velvet ribbons that shimmer with elegance and sari silk strips that evoke playful whimsy.
I delight in discovering unique embellishments, like a hand-painted snippet from my own artwork, each holding special meaning for me. Watching these elements come together, I see how they not only complement my aesthetic but also express my love for color and style. Every choice I make helps communicate a message of hope and resilience, allowing my style and values to shine through in every hat I create.
These hats allow each wearer to carry a piece of hope wherever they go.
Mad Hatter Birthday Party & Launch Event
To bring these celebrations together, I’m hosting a Mad Hatter birthday party on First Friday! This whimsical event marks my studio’s anniversary, my birthday, the Halloween Market, and the official launch of The Hope Collection hats—all in one magical evening. Expect joy, creativity, and a touch of Wonderland as we unveil this special collection.
As we celebrate these milestones together, I’m also excited to invite you to participate in upcoming creative workshops at the studio.
